Research and Scholarship Reflection
I have been fortunate to be a part of four research teams throughout my PhD program. One team was in our Quantitative course where we used existing quantitative data provided by our professor to create a new line of inquiry. Another team was in the Dissemination of Research course, where we were able to submit an article to a professional journal that was a systematic review of research about online supervision formats. I was on 2 research teams as part of study abroad trips to Germany and Kosovo, which are still in progress with manuscripts expected to be submitted to journals this year. All of these opportunities were borne out of professors who took the time to include and invest in students in research they were engaging in. I have found great value in the high level of mentorship that is taking place in our program, especially in regard to research and scholarship.
In two of the studies I was involved in, I was able to submit the IRB proposals, which was a great learning experience. Across the program, I have read hundreds of articles, which has increased my vocabulary and ability to write in a scholarly fashion. The emphasis on research and scholarship in our program is so valuable and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
My strong faith has helped me persevere in this academic endeavor as there were times when I did not feel worthy or like I had what it takes to become a true scholar. God reminded me of the calling He put on me when I enrolled in this program and He was faithful to empower me to do my best work and pursue excellence in a way that points others to Him.
